Paola Roncada, born in Milan in 1969, finished her studies in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology at the University of Milan cum laude in 1995. In 1996 she began to work as pharmacist in Milan and in 2001 she finished her research PhD in biochemistry at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Sassari, writing her thesis on Proteomics of the milk protein in various species.

Since 1997 she has been working for the Institute Spallanzani, founding the proteomics laboratory in collaboration with the University of Milan, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The main focus of the research is initially on milk, including human milk to subsequently shift the area of interest of proteomics to microorganisms for public health purposes, from animal welfare to food safety.

She is the author of more than 150 works, 45 of which in journals listed on pubmed with Impact Factor. (H index scopus 13, Google Scholar 14).

Since 2001 she is head of the Laboratory of Proteomics of the Institute Spallanzani, in collaboration with the Department of Veterinary Sciences and Public Health. Since 2009 she has been an elected member of the Board of the Italian Proteomics Association (as its Treasurer) and since 2013 she is founder and member of the cda of the Italian Proteomics Association Foundation ItPA onlus.

Since 2015 she is elected member of the Council of the Global Society for Proteomics, HUPO-Human Proteome Organization, in which she is part of two technical boards, being the Membership Committee and the Biology and Disease Committee.

She has been invited to speak on numerous national and international meetings,

She is reviewer for the following international journals: African Journal of Microbiological Research; Annals of Clinical Microbiology and Antimicrobials; BMC Veterinary Research; Canadian Journal of Veterinary Research; Chemical Communications; EuPA Open Proteomics; Food research international; Frontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology; Frontiers in life Science; International Journal of Livestock Production; Journal of Proteome Research; Journal of Proteomics; Molecular BioSystems; Open Veterinary Journal; Plos one; Proteome Science; PROTEOMICS; Research in Veterinary Science.

She is editor for EuPA Open Proteomics and Journal of Proteomics-special issue Foodomics (2015)

She helped organize the following scientific conferences and workshops:

  • 3° Italian Conference of the Human Proteome Organization (IHUPO), Lodi, September 2005.

  • Since 2010 she is Treasurer for the Italian Association of Proteomics (ItPA), promotor and organiser of National Conferences of ItPA, e.g. Florence, June 2010; Turin, June 2011; Viterbo, June 2012, Padua June 2013, Naples June 2014.
