Microbiology

The Spallanzani Institute is equipped with a modern laboratory used to monitor and perform microbiological controls of raw materials and finished products of the cosmetic industry. In Italy, the microbiological analysis of cosmetics is regulated under cosmetic Regulation CE 1223/2009: this regulation has as main function to guarantee the safety of the consumer which uses these cosmetic products. This service of analysis more specifically deals with the microbial counting of mesophiles, moulds and yeasts, the analysis for the possible presence of pathogenic micro-organisms, tests of microbiological stability (Challenge test e PAO), the control of the work environment, including water.

Chemistry

The Institute offers chemical analyses to determine the purity and the content of the raw material, e.g. the presence of specific elements like heavy metals, active principles, preservatives, antioxidants, solar filters.
