MARINA MONTEDORO

She was born in Abano Terme, in the province of Padua, on the 18th of April 1976. She began her studies at the Liceo Classico where she became passionate about the Greek language and the translation of ancient Greek texts, something she still continues doing in her past time. She enrolled at the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Padua and she got her degree cum laude. In 2002 she obtained her qualification as Agronomist. Before completing her academic studies she won a scholarship for a Research PhD in Agri-food Economics and Politics at the University of Padua and she got this degree in 2005.

She started working for the Confcooperative Veneto in 2005 where she was regional head of the Fedagri Veneto and in charge of offering technical support to the associated agri-food cooperatives. Her work experiences since then have allowed her to gain very specific 360° skills in the field of agri-food.

In 2006 she founded, with the help of associates, the first Centre of Agricultural Assistance (Caa) of the Confcooperative Veneto of which she was head until 2008.

In 2008 she left the Confcooperative Veneto to move to Rome where she was assigned to the position of non-general Executive Director of the department “Research and Experimentation” of the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies (Mipaaf), thus dedicating herself also to research and innovation on a national and international level.

In autumn 2014 she was appointed head of the Italian Experimental Institute Lazzaro Spallanzani which does research on reproduction, selection and genetic improvement of life stock and domestic animals, but which is also concerned with quality and safety of products of animal origin.

Work experience

Since 2008 she has played an important role as representative for Italy in numerous international committees:

  • as vice-president of the JPI FACCE, a joint programming initiative set up by the European Commission for Agriculture, Food Safety and Climate Change

  • as representative for the Mipaaf in the Governing Board in numerous activities promoted and financed by the European Commission for ERA, VII Framework Programme e Horizon2020;

  • as Italian representative in the CDA of the Global Research Alliance, the international Alliance on the greenhouse gas emissions which involves 40 countries of the world and which has as main goal the development of strategies which are to reduce the emissions due to agricultural practices;

  • as Italian representative on the Governing Board of the Wheat Initiative, the international Wheat initiative

  • as member of the Consulting Board of the Ministry of Education, Universities and Research (MIUR) dealing with issues related to “agriculture” and this to offer support to the programming head of Horizon2020

  • as member of the Technical and Scientific Committee of ERSAF in Lombardy; as representative for Italy in the Governing Board of the Oecd (OCSE);

  • as representative for Italy in the International Coordinating Council for the UNESCO MAB Program

  • as member of the inter-ministerial assessment commission according to D. Lgs. n. 224/2003 art. 6 established by the Ministry of Environment;

  • as member of the inter-ministerial coordinating commission of biotechnologies of the Ministry of Health;

  • as member of the Monitoring Committee and the assessment Committee of the Programma Operativo Nazionale (PON) REC 2007-2013 (Convergence Objective) of the Ministry of Research (Miur);

  • as representative for Italy in the SCAR (Standing Committee on Agricultural Research, the permanent Committee of agricultural research of the European Union).
